Why I Still Love New Year’s Goals (and the Fitness Program That Changed My Life)

Every year around this time, I hear people say things like:

“New Year’s goals are pointless.”
“You should be working on your goals all year long.”
“January motivation never lasts.”

And honestly? I get it.

But here’s the thing — there is something powerful about the New Year, and I know that because it changed my life.

The New Year Goal That Started Everything

Fourteen years ago, I made a New Year’s goal that felt simple… but secretly felt impossible.

I wanted to get my splits.

I never had them as a kid.
I just had my third baby.
I didn’t feel strong or flexible and honestly, felt like I was just getting old.

What I did feel was ready.

Ready to reconnect with my body.
Ready to feel like myself again.
Ready to commit to something just for me.

That one goal set off a chain reaction I never could have predicted.

I started with short daily movement to warm up my muscles.
Then I created stretching routines.
Then strength work.
Then learned all about how to train like a gymnast.

That “how to get your splits” goal eventually led me to handstands, calisthenics, coaching, and building my absolute DREAM BUSINESS I run today.

That’s why I still believe in New Year’s goals — not because I always reach them, but because they open a door to endless possibilities.

Most people don’t fail their goals because they’re lazy.
They fail because they don’t have a plan.
